Abstract Objective To investigate the protective effects of Shexiang Tongxin Dropping Pil on blood vessel endothelium of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods 80 outpatients and inpatients with CAD were enrol ed in our hospital from June to December 2014. They were randomly assigned to observation group and control group. Control group was treated with conventional therapy including clopidogrel and statin, while the observation group was treated with conventional therapy plus Shexiang Tongxin Dropping Pil for six months. The plasma nitrogen oxide (NO), endothelin- 1(ET- 1) and high- sensitivity C- reactive protein(hs- CRP) were measured just before and at 6 months after the treatment. The frequency of angina, heart rate, the degree and duration of pain were recorded every week during 6 months. Results NO, ET- 1 and hs- CRP were improved significantly after 6 months treatment in both groups compared to pretreatment(P<0.05). NO, ET- 1 and hs- CRP were improved more significantly and the total effective rate was significantly higher in observation group than in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Long- term oral administration of Shexiang Tongxin Dropping Pil with conventional therapy may further improve vascular endothelial cel function and relieve the symptoms of angina pectoris.
