Abstract Objective To investigate the association between aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2)gene polymorphism and serum aldosterone( ALD)level in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods The- 344C/T polymorphism of CYP11B2 was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction and restriction enzyme digestion and serum ALD level was measured by radioimmunoassay in 62 CHF patients and 30 patients without cardiovascular disease. Results Among 62 CHF patients, 42 cases had the TT genotype ( 67.7%), 17 cases had the CT genotype (27.4%) and 3 cases had the CC genotype (4.8% ). There was no significant difference of- 344C/T polymorphism of CYP11B2 between CHF and control group and among NYHA class II,III and IV. The serum ALD level was significantly higher in the TT genotype group than in CT/CC genotype combination group (168.3 ±54.4 ng/L vs 119.9 ±38.1 ng/L, t=3.575,P<0.01). Conclusion Serum ALD level increases significantly in CHF patients with the TT genotype.
