Abstract Objective To explore therapeutic effect of continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) in young and middle-aged patients with both hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS). Methods 70 patients aged 30 to 55 years with hypertension and OSAHS received treatment of CPAP. Blood pressure (BP) and ap-nea/hypopnea events were recorded simultaneously with ambulatory BP monitor and polysolnnograhy, respectively. Re-sults 24-hour systolic and diastolic BP, night systolic and diastolic BP and apnea-hypopnea index decreased signifi-cantly after 4-week treatment (P<0.01). The circadian rhythm of BP restored during 4 to 8-week treatment. Conclusion CPAP is effective in relieving airway obstruction, decreasing BP and restoring circadian rhythm of BP in patients with hy-pertension and OSAHS.
