Abstract Objective To investigate the correlation of red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and ventricular tachycardia,ventricular flutter/ventricular fibrillation in hospitalized patients with chronic heart failure (CHF)).Methods 136 cases of CHF patients were divided into four groups according to quartile of RDW.Heart function,laboratory data,ventricular tachycardia and ventricular flutter/ventricular fibrillation during hospitalization were compared between groups.The relation between RDW and malignant ventricular arrhythmias was analyzed by multiple logistic regression.Results From quartile 1 to quartile 4,NT- proBNP increased gradually (P<0.05).The incidence of ventricular tachycardia and ventricular flutter/ventricular fibrillation was significantly higher in quartile 4 than quartile 3 (75.0% vs.41.6%,P<0.05),significantly higher in quartile 3 than in quartile 1 (8.3%) and quartile 2 (4.2%)(all P<0.05).Multivariable Logistic regression analysis showed that RDW was a risk factor for ventricular tachycardia and ventricular flutter/entricular fibrillation (OR=1.749,P<0.05).Conclusion Higher level of RDW is related to the occurrence of ventricular tachycardia and ventricular flutter/ventricular fibrillation in CHF patients.
