Abstract Objective To investigate significance of serum BNP and visfatin level in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstruction pulmonary disease (COPD) complicated with chronic pulmonary heart disease (CPHD) and heart failure (HF). Methods 75 patients with acute exacerbation of COPD complicated with CPHD and HF and 50 healthy people were enrol ed. The patients were grouped according to New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification.Serum BNP and visfatin concentrations were measured and compared between groups and their relation to PaO2 was determined. Results The serum BNP and visfatin were significantly higher in the patients with acute exacerbation of COPD and CPHD than in healthy people (P<0.05).The serum BNP and visfatin level increased and PaO2 decreased gradual y as NYHA class increased.PaO2 was negatively correlated with serum BNP and visfatin (r= - 0.381, - 0.295, P<0.05).BNP was positively correlated with visfatin(r=0.361, P<0.05). Conclusion Serum BNP and visfatin increase obviously in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD complicated with CPHD and HF, which are correlated with hypoxia.
