Abstract Objective To compare the incidence of complications after cardiac pacer implantation in patients younger and older than 70 years. Methods 237 patients underwent cardiac pacemaker implantation in our hospital from January 2006 to December 2011. Of them, 178 cases were younger than 70 years and 59 cases 70 years or older. The complications were observed during fol ow- up 2 years. Results Pacemaker complications occurred in 25 patients (10.55%), including 11 patients with pocket hemorrhage or hematoma, 4 patients with pocket broken or pocket infection, 5 patients with pacemaker mediated tachycardia, 4 patients with pacemaker syndrome and one patient with lead dislodgement or fracture. There was no significant difference of complications between the two groups. Conclusion The complications after cardiac pacemaker implantation do not increase as age increasing.
