Abstract Objective To explore the correlation of serum T3 level with N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods Serum T3 and plasma NT-proBNP were measured in 97 patients with CHF. They were divided into low T3 group (n=45) and normal T3 group (n=52). Plasma NT-proBNP and the prognosis of heart failure were compared between the two groups. Results Low T3 group had significantly higher plas-ma NT-proBNP than normal T3 group in al patients [(1 775.40±543.78)pg / ml vs. (1 205.96±336.59)pg / ml] and in pa-tients stratified by NYHA class [(643.07±249.32)、(1 392.75±412.63)、(3 178.66±727.13)pg / ml] vs. [(405.17±227.35)、(947.48±317.22)、(2 057.13±436.10)pg / ml] (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse events was higher in low T3 group than in normal T3 group (53% vs.25%). Conclusion Serum T3 level may be used as a non- specific prognostic indicator of chronic heart failure.
