Abstract Objective To assess the relationship between serum carbohydrate antigen 125(CA125) and inflammatory cytokines in patients with chronic heart failure (HF). Methods A total of 38 HF patients and 15 healthy individuals were enrolled in this study. HF patients were divided into mild HF (NYHA classI/Ⅱ, n=18) and severe HF (NYHA classⅢ/Ⅳ, n=20) group. Serum CA125, IL6、TNF- αand plasma BNP levels were measured in the second morning after hospitalization. Results Serum CA125, IL6 ,TNF- αand BNP were significantly higher in HF patients than in healthy individuals(al P<0.01), significantly higher in severe HF patients than in mild HF patients(al P<0.01). Serum CA125 levels was positively related to IL6(r=0.718, P<0.01), TNF- α(r=0.559, P<0.01), and BNP levels(r=0.786, P<0.01). Conclusion Serum CA125 is elevated in patients with HF. This is associated with increased IL6 and TNF- α.
